Model G problems - 2009/06/20 18:27
I am a newbie on this forum but my Allis Chalmers Model G drove me here. We are using it in parades but the load caused by going up a hill causes it to surge, the governor seems to overcompensate to open throttle, then overcompensate to close throttle. We thought it might be a carb float issue and haqd the carb rebuilt, no change. We pulled off the governor assembly and find that the weights, pins and pin holding plate are allowing a lot of slop in the mechanism. The pins have deep wear where they rub on the backing plate boss. The spring on the throttle rod has a welded repair by a previous owner, so we might look at that except that we don't know what to look for.
I am starting to look for a complete weight assembly but if that is not available, will re-fit 3/16 diameter pins to tighten up the clearances. The pins are now .156 diameter.
Does anyone have suggestions? At the worst, could I disconnect the governor and use throttle only (for parades)?
Thanks for any advice. juanbaul czechit05@peoplepc.com
